Serving the Salad

What I accomplished this week
I in a basic sense have a finished game. There is still room for improvement and plenty of little things that need fixing but at its core it is, in fact, a game. I don't have a name for it and I have not published it but I have a full third level and I have added most all of what I would call the finished "graphics". I made the third level a game where the character is dragged along an x axis and given a jump to avoid obstacles and to collect items, which currently serve no purpose.

What I am Working on
I am pretty much just adding finishing touches such as a title screen and music. I still need to find an actual copy right free music website. I am hoping that I will be able to get all of the bugs out of the way in my game and, maybe, implement a gate that needs a key to unlock in my third level but for now I'm not sure.

What I Plan to do Next
In the end I hope that I won't have to edit my game anymore but in the case that I will be doing something else that something would most likely be a tutorial on whatever my teacher said I needed to make a tutorial on. Also I am shooting for the idea of potentially continuing this blog on the off chance that anyone important sees my project and for some reason thinks I'm worthy of something. Anyways for everyone who is reading thanks for your support and good luck to those who also have genius hour projects. Adios and may the force be with you.

Getting Out the Plates

What I Accomplished this week
I actually got a lot done this week in terms of new things. I am now trying to create my third level after I have created my second level. My second level was a lava raising level with platforms and a goal that would bring you to the next stage. I also changed the graphics so that the wall and the goal will look like red stone and a door. What I am planing on making my next level act like is a run and jump game where you need to collect items to unlock a goal. What I have so far is my character is able to jump from a gravity command and a Y axis drag that will make the character jump, though unfortunately right now continuously, and also is being dragged on the X axis constantly for the characters movement. I will be adding more later but this is what I have so far.

What I am Working on
I am currently working on a way to make the camera follow the character while its moving and making the keys and the rest of the entire level. I'm going to try and make obstacles that will bring you back to the beginning of the game and a sort of death lava that you can fall into when you mess up a jump.

What I Plan to do Next
I plan on hopefully getting close to finishing up my entire game and adding  few minor touches, but what I am really thinking I will have done is the crude finish of the games three levels and a finish but other than that I have little to no plans.

Aplying the Dressing

What I accomplished this week
This week I was able to create another level. I made this one connect to the other level so that when entering the gate you, the character, get transported to the second level in which you have to jump from platform to platform to avoid the lava that is slowly rising up from the floor. I made it so that the only way to jump was that when you were touching the platforms so you can't just fly upwards.

What am I Working On?
What I am currently working on is to create a third level and a gate to bring the character to the level. I hope to also fix the problem I am having. When a character moves while jumping they start to float instead of fall normally which is a big problem when trying to make it a platformer level. Hopefully I will be able to fix this in the near future and finish my second level.

What I Plan to do Next
I am hoping to create a third level and I don't quite know what I will make it but I have a couple of ideas that i could do. My first one was to make it a running level so that you would have to dodge obstacles or a Galiga like game where you have to shoot all of the enemies to win. Hopefully I can create the next level and decide on a topic soon.

If you can't tell I'm making a salad

What I Accomplished This Week
This week I was able to create a gate that brought my initial character to the next level. I did this by creating an action that when the player comes in contact with the gate the player will be transported to the next level. I also was able to start production on creating that level. It is going to change to a platformer after the transition which required me to create a jump mechanic which also meant removing the up movement. I also needed to create a gravity function on the Y axis so that the character would move down.

What am I Working On?
I am currently working on trying to fully create the second level but I am having some unfortunate luck. Even while I can create platforms for the second level and have made the player jump I can't move them sideways while retaining the same height. I don't really know why that is but it just so happens to be that way so I'm currently trying to fix that.

What do I Plan to do Next?
What I plan to do next is to pretty much wrap up the second level which hopefully won't take too long but trying to find good tutorials on what I'm looking for is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. But hopefully I can get the format of the level finished by next week.

Dicing the Carrots

Hello everybody! Welcome back to Will's Sub Par Blog! This week I was able to create a new level. Now, mind you, not a working level but it is a "New level". I've been trying to create a portal that can appear in one level to bring you to the next. But guess what? I technically have a game now! I found out that by creating a new scene and that the transition would be reacting based on the death of the players character. This triggered a new scene to appear which this time is the "you lose" screen. So far it's not much of a game but I have a fully functioning level and the ability to restart the level if you die! This doesn't seem like much but it opens up a lot of possibility. I learned how to display text from this project and now also know how to reset specific things. This means that later I could create a platform based game and apply gravity to create something like a Mario game with levels. Though I have not made the level two yet I will be planning on making that my next step as I will also be working on various other gimmicks to make the game more interesting. I will hopefully teach myself how to spawn things into the game next because that once again will open far more opportunities to do more in the game.  Well thanks for reading I hope you have a wonderful day!

Chopping the Pepers

Hey everybody I hope your doing well! This past week I was able to accomplish my goal creating an enemy to oppose the player's character. This character so far is just named enemy and I have accomplished the goal which is that the first collision between characters is acknowledge when they come in contact for the first time, and that this collision would cause the character to be deleted. This allows me to create a dodging game that's based on reaction speed and can reset or have levels. What I will be working on in the near future is a home screen to return to when you "die" in the game. This also ties into how later I will be trying to create a sort of portal system which will send a signal to a key that will activate its own action and transfer the main character to a new level where the cycle will repeat. I'm hoping to learn how to make a retry button to restart the game when you lose but currently I don't have the knowledge to accomplish that goal so I will be watching plenty of tutorials along with experimenting on my own. currently I have a sort of single level to my game where about three enemies fly at you from the right screen and if you touch one you die so you have to dodge them in order to win. So far its pretty simple but I'm hoping to make new mechanics such as a gravity level or a smaller space to maneuver when dodging. So far my game has a pretty solid foundation and I haven't run into any bugs so I don't know what is to come in the future but I am enjoying making the game so far so I hope that mentality doesn't leave me! Anyways here's a pic of my progress! And please comment the best thing you ate today!
